Revealing Yourself in Profiles: Profile options protect your privacy or increase your business exposure
  Email Email    Print Print
In a world in which we daily give up more and more personal privacy (video cameras on public streets, removal of shoes at the airport, fingerprinting at job interviews), the desire to hang on to what we can is understandable.

However, what one deems "private" is unique to each individual. YouTube and Facebook are evidence that a multitude of people feel free to reveal a lot about themselves. Others will refuse to shop online to limit the amount of information they place into the public sector.

We appreciate the whole range of thought on personal privacy, which is why we have provided you with options. Uploading a video profile is optional. If you would like to use this tool to market your skills, go to it. If you would rather not, that's ok too. A video profile will not make you the number one ranked guru - hard work, dedication to excellence and a strong work ethic earn you that coveted spot. What the video does, however, is give you the opportunity to catch the eye of Employers who otherwise might not have glanced at your profiles.

We are not expecting anyone to reveal more about themselves than they are comfortable with in the videos. You determine what it is you would like a potential Employer to know about you, your work or your work habits.

Video aside, the profiles also give you the option to publicly reveal your contact information and resume. You have the opportunity to make these features available to Employers when they are searching for a Freelancer or to keep them hidden until you bid on a project. By default, these items are hidden.

Resume references are never available to the Employer until you bid on a project.

The profiles are filled with options. They are designed to address the needs of both Freelancers and Employers, helping the former to expand their business opportunities and the latter to make better informed decisions. We invite each of you to take full advantage of the features you are the most comfortable with and hope you all succeed in your future endeavors!
