Payment Name Changes
21-Nov-2011 Email Email   Print Print

Starting December 4, 2011, you will see the following name changes in the Guru Billing and Payment System...

  • SafePay Account > Cash Account
  • SafePay Invoice > Guru Invoice
  • SafePay Escrow > SafePay
  • SafePay Billing Code > Billing Code

These  new names are intended to provide clarity and, therefore, make the payment system easier to use.

Think about it... you can't use a credit card to deposit funds into your SafePay Account. You can only use check, e-check or wire transfer. Hence the change to "cash account."

These new names will help reinforce the differences between the two very distinct service propositions, escrow and invoicing.

Your tried and tested benefits... now with simpler names.

How about an auto release request option for providers of any or all escrow funds in 30 days for a nominal charge if an employer has not responded to requests, reminders, or filed a complaint about services rendered?

I disagree.....in part: The word "escrow" has an explicit meaning and my 2¢ worth is to leave that one as it is.

Escrow is an accounting term with a specific meaning (that we understand) and it should be left as is!

Tooling Design and A-Cubed Software Ltd -

Thank you both for taking the time to weigh in. I agree with both statements which speak to the universally recognizable quality of the term ‘escrow’. That being said, our present challenge is not so much a matter of effectively relaying the meaning of the term ‘escrow’, as it is in drawing a distinction between the protections afforded by the ‘SafePay Escrow’ service when compared to the other payment features of the site (i.e. SafePay Account, SafePay Invoicing).

While most seasoned users have come to accept the terms ‘SafePay Account’, ‘SafePay Invoicing’, and ‘SafePay Escrow’ as commonly recognized characteristics of Guru.com, newer users have expressed confusion over the frequent use of the term ‘SafePay’. One common example being the Employer who funds his SafePay Account thinking that he’s actually depositing funds into a SafePay Escrow account. By renaming the escrow feature as simply ‘SafePay’, we are highlighting the protective nature of this feature while making the switch to more basic, self-explaining, terminology for the SafePay Account and SafePay Invoicing features.

In the interest of eliminating this confusion, and in light of our current redesign efforts, we feel that it’s now an appropriate time to move towards language that provides a clearer and more distinctive definition of the various site payment features. Thanks again, to all who have taken the time to share their thoughts and suggestions. Looking forward to reading more!

Despite your explanation,we and our clients would be better served if you retained the word escrow, calling the account type "SafePay Escrow." Escrow makes clear to my clients that Guru is holding their funds and they are protected. You have removed the word "SafePay" from the other types of accounts so adding "escrow" back will not create confusion.
