Project Checklist: Before You Begin

Before beginning the project, make sure you can answer "yes" to the following points.
  • The Freelancer has the skills I need at the price I can afford. The first step in locating the Freelancer for the job is finding the person who has the talent and experience needed to complete the project, in addition to the willingness to work for the price stated.
  • The Freelancer has a good understanding of my needs. Without a thorough understanding of your business, project, and goals, the Freelancer has little chance of successfully completing your project. If, when viewing the proposal and communicating with the Freelancer, you gain a sense that this person knows your business, your needs, and how to solve them, he or she is likely a keeper. However, if the Freelancer seems to have trouble understanding the problem, indicates his or her unfamiliarity with the tools needed, or becomes concerned at the time frame, it is probably best to set the person aside. One of the benefits of hiring a Freelancer over an employee is the ramp up time. Unlike employees who typically requiring training on the company, systems, and tools, Freelancers should be ready to move once they understand your personal needs.
  • You can easily communicate with the Freelancer. Depending on your preferred method of communication, you and the Freelancer must be able to communicate effectively to get anywhere. If, when speaking with the Freelancer, you find that you have a hard time discussing the project, set him or her aside.
  • The Freelancer can be reached with little effort. Freelancers who are easy to reach instill a level of trust in the Employer. The ability to reach someone easily to ask a question or discuss progress is critical. The Freelancer who provides numerous means of contact and is available for the entire duration of your project is a better choice than the one who is only available on Tuesdays after 5 p.m. and has planned an extended vacation during the project.
  • The Freelancer is willing to use SafePay.
